After completing an Atlassian sandbox sync (also known as a sandbox refresh or copying production data to a sandbox), there are a few important steps you should take to make sure your Rewind backups continue running smoothly and your historical data stays fully protected. This guide walks you through what to check and what to do next.
Important: Be sure to reinstall Rewind on your sandbox instance within 7 days of triggering the sync. If this step is missed, a new instance will be created that won’t be connected to your existing backup history.
Steps to complete after syncing your sandbox
-
Resync your sandbox.
During this process, Rewind and any other third-party apps will be uninstalled, along with their associated data. This is expected behavior when refreshing or syncing a sandbox from production.
-
Reinstall Rewind within 7 days.
Reinstall Rewind on your sandbox instance using an admin account. Completing this step within the 7-day window ensures your sandbox remains linked to your existing backups.
-
Review permissions and group memberships.
After the sync is complete, take a moment to confirm everything carried over correctly. These are the most common areas where changes can occur:- Admin permissions: Make sure the account Rewind uses still has global admin access. If not, backups may stop working properly.
- Group memberships: Check that users are still assigned to the correct groups, as these don’t always carry over depending on your setup.
- Jira project permissions: Confirm that permission schemes are correctly applied and that Rewind still has access to any private projects. If access is missing, those projects may be skipped during backups.
- Confluence space permissions: Review restricted spaces and ensure Rewind’s authentication user still has access.
-
App permissions & OAuth scopes: Make sure Rewind has been granted the same permissions as your production instance, and reconfigure anything that may have changed.
-
Request a full “beginning of time” backup.
Reach out to Rewind Support to request a complete backup of your sandbox instance. Depending on the size of your data, this may take some time—but it helps ensure nothing is missed and your backups are fully reliable.
Next steps
- Keep an eye on your sandbox backups to make sure they continue running as expected.
- If something doesn’t look right, revisit the steps above—especially permissions and access settings.
Tip: Taking a few minutes to verify permissions and run a full backup after a sandbox sync or refresh can save you time later and help avoid restore issues.
