This article covers how to manage your Hot Standby instance after it has been set up, including how to trigger manual syncs, abort or turn off sync, handle sync failures, uninstall, unlink, and switch over to using your Hot Standby instance as your main Jira instance.
Triggering a manual sync
You can trigger a sync at any time by clicking Sync now on the Hot Standby tab. This is useful if you want to sync more recently than the next scheduled automated sync.
Aborting and turning off sync
You can abort an in-progress sync at any time by clicking Abort sync while a sync is running. This is useful if you identify an issue on the main instance that you do not want synced over.
To stop syncing entirely, click Turn off on the Hot Standby tab.
What happens when a sync fails
If a sync fails for any reason, it will be re-attempted at the next scheduled run (approximately 24 hours from the start time of the previous run). If you continue to experience issues, contact us at help@rewind.com.
Uninstalling Hot Standby
To uninstall Hot Standby, you must first turn off sync by clicking Turn off on the Hot Standby tab. Once sync is off, you can uninstall the Rewind app from the Hot Standby instance via the Manage apps area on the Atlassian Marketplace.
Unlinking a Hot Standby instance
If you want to use a different destination instance for Hot Standby, you can unlink the current one by clicking Unlink instance in the menu beside the Sync now button. From there, you can link a new destination instance by following the steps in Setting up Hot Standby for Jira.
Using the Hot Standby instance as your main instance
Because the Hot Standby instance is solely a destination for synced data, it is not backed up by Rewind. If you need to switch over and use it as your main instance, follow the steps below.
Before proceeding, we recommend doing a routine export (or Cloud Sync) of your backups so that any content that needs to be re-created can be located and copied over.
- Turn off sync by clicking Turn off on the Hot Standby tab.
- Uninstall the Rewind app from the Hot Standby instance.
- Uninstall Rewind from the main instance.
- Install Rewind on the Hot Standby instance. When prompted, select I want to backup this instance. A new beginning-of-time backup will run after this process completes.
- Set up all third-party applications and MCPs (if applicable).
- Re-create any information missing from the main instance as needed, including users, permissions, third-party add-ons, and associated schemes.
