SharePoint backup limitations

Site URL cannot be changed

Rewind Backups currently does not support backup and restore of SharePoint sites if the URL is changed after a subscription has begun. If such a change occurs, data backed up from the site prior to the change will not restore to the site with the new URL as data can only be restored to the location from which it was backed up.

Microsoft throttling

SharePoint sites greater than 700 GB may encounter significant Microsoft throttling, resulting in degraded performance. This can lead to backup inconsistencies or failures for the site. Rewind Backups is in the process of implementing technology that will streamline backup methodology for improved performance.

File size limit

Rewind Backups currently supports the backup and recovery of files up to 100 GB.

OneDrive for Business

The following OneDrive for Business data types are backed up, including all files and formats (including OneNote) and associated metadata.

  • Filetype
  • Filename
  • Size
  • Author or modifier
  • Modified date
  • Versions (when enabled in OneDrive for Business)
