The Advanced Restore feature lets you roll back your BigCommerce store to a previous point in time. You can restore a specific item type, a combination of item types, or All Item Types.
This is useful when widespread changes affect your store, such as a CSV import overwriting product data, bulk deletions, or a configuration update affecting many records at once.
Before performing an advanced restore
-
Run a manual backup first
An advanced restore can't be undone (the app warns you before you confirm). Run a manual backup first so your latest changes are captured. See How to: Kick off a Manual Backup for detailed steps. -
Restores revert data to earlier versions
Advanced restores revert the selected BigCommerce data to the versions stored in your backups. Any changes made after the selected restore point, including intentional edits, will be reversed. Edits made after your last backup aren't captured and won't be reversed. -
Restores won't delete items created after the selected restore point.
Restored items go back to how they were at that time, including data added to them later:- Products: Images, videos, variants, options, modifiers, product rules, custom fields, and bulk pricing rules added later are removed (unless the product had none of that type). Inventory levels are set back. Reviews on existing products aren't changed, and configurable fields aren't restored.
- Customers: Addresses added later are removed (unless the customer had none). Form fields and the marketing opt-in aren't restored.
- Price lists: An advanced restore doesn't roll back price list prices. When products are restored, Rewind updates existing price list entries so they point to any product variants that were recreated. To return a price list to an earlier version, restore that price list on its own from its item page.
Steps to complete an advanced restore in BigCommerce
- Log in to your Rewind account.
- Click Integrations > BigCommerce from the left-hand menu and then select your BigCommerce store.
- Select the Advanced Restore tab.
-
In the Items to restore section, choose what item types you want to restore:
- Automated: Products, Categories, Option Sets, Brands, Pages, and Blog Posts. These restores start right away.
- By Request: All Item Types, Customers, Gift Certificates, Orders, and Redirects. These restores are completed by our team within 7 days.
Important: If your selection includes any By Request item type (or All Item Types), the whole restore, including any Automated item types, is sent to our team and won't start automatically. To restore Automated item types right away, run a restore with only Automated item types first. Once it has completed, submit a second restore for the By Request item types.
- Select the date and time you want to restore your data to. This should typically be a time before the unwanted changes occurred.
Tip: If you're unsure which date to choose, select a time from when your store data last appeared correctly in BigCommerce. - Click Restore Items to start the restore job.
You will receive an email notification once an automated restore has completed.
Additional information
- An advanced restore creates a restore job that processes all selected items. The time required will depend on the amount of data being restored and on factors such as BigCommerce API rate limits. While a restore or restore request is in progress on your store, you can't start another one.
- If you only need to restore a single item, such as one product, category, or page, see Restoring an item: A step by step walkthrough. Customers, orders, gift certificates, and redirects can't be restored one at a time; use Advanced Restore and select them under By Request.
- Backup and restore activity can be reviewed in the Rewind audit log. See our Audit Log FAQ to learn how to view these events.
