Availability: Configurable Data Retention is currently in Early Access. Speak to your Account Manager or email help@rewind.io to request access.
Overview
Rewind allows you to configure your data retention period beyond the default 365 days. You can set retention to a shorter or longer period to align with your organization’s backup policy and compliance needs.
Retention types
Rewind provides two ways to control retention:
Storage retention
|
Restorability retention
|
Good to know
- Scope: Retention is set at the service instance level and applies to all items in that instance. Per project/repository settings are planned for a future release.
- BYOS checks: If you use BYOS, Rewind compares your configured retention with your bucket’s lifecycle policy nightly and will inform you if there’s a discrepancy.
Supported integrations
The following backup types support configurable data retention:
|
|
Limitations
- Minimum retention: 90 days.
- Changing retention: If you change your configured retention period, the new setting applies only to new items and new versions created after the change. Previous versions of existing items keep the retention period that was in effect when they were backed up, but the latest version of each item is always stored indefinitely.
- Shortening the retention period: Once your retention period is set, it can be extended but not shortened.
- How to make changes: For now, retention configuration changes can be requested by emailing help@rewind.com.
- Existing customers: If you haven’t set a custom retention period before, moving from the default 365 days requires us to remove your previous backup history. We’ll then run a full backup of your environment, and from that point forward, your backups will begin fresh under the new retention period.
