Overview
Rewind Notifications make it easy to stay informed about critical events across your organization. Whether you're monitoring backup health, tracking security changes, or supporting compliance, these flexible alerting tools help ensure the right people get notified at the right time. You can send alerts to both internal team members and external recipients—even if they don’t have a Rewind account.
Notification Options
Rewind offers two ways to configure email alerts depending on who needs to receive them:
- My Notifications – Rewind Organization Owners and Admins can control the notifications they receive based on selected event types or categories.
- External Notifications – Route alerts to non-Rewind users, such as external vendors, monitoring tools, or compliance lists.
Key Benefits
- Proactive monitoring: Stay ahead of issues before they become critical
- Flexible routing: Send alerts to the right people and systems
- Third-party integration: Works with tools like PagerDuty, Opsgenie, and more
- Compliance support: Keep IT and compliance teams in the loop
-
Customizable coverage: Receive alerts by event type or event category
My Notifications
Rewind Organization Admins and Owners can use My Notifications to manage which alerts they personally receive based on specific event types. Preferences can be tailored by category (Admin, Information, Security), particular events, or users can opt in to receive notifications for all current and future events.
Who can configure My Notifications?
Only Organization Admins and Organization Owners can access and modify their personal notification preferences using the My Notifications interface. These users can subscribe to alerts by category or event type and manage which updates they want to receive.
If you're not seeing this option in your Account Settings, you may not have the required permissions. Learn more about roles and permissions in Rewind →

External Notifications
External Notifications allow you to send alerts to non-Rewind users such as team distribution lists, monitoring systems (e.g., PagerDuty), or individual email addresses. These recipients do not need a Rewind account. Once you add them to a notification subscription, external contacts will receive only the notifications configured in their assigned subscriptions.
Understanding External Notification Subscriptions
When setting up External Notifications, you'll be prompted to create a subscription—this is a grouping of external recipients and the event types they should be notified about.
Think of a subscription as a notification rule:
- You define which types of events should trigger notifications.
- You specify which external email addresses should receive those notifications.
-
You can create multiple subscriptions, each tailored to different teams or use cases (e.g.,
security@company.comgets only security alerts, whilecompliance@company.comgets admin and backup events).
This flexibility helps you ensure the right people are informed without flooding everyone with irrelevant alerts.
Example Use Case
Let’s say your organization wants to route alerts as follows:
- Security Team → Receives only security-related events.
- Compliance Team → Receives all admin and information alerts.
- IT Vendor → Receives backup failure alerts.
In this scenario, you would set up three separate subscriptions, each with different recipients and event filters.
Supported Third-Party Tools
Many third-party tools support receiving alerts via email, making them compatible with Rewind’s external notifications. No additional setup is required in Rewind—just enter a valid email address when creating an external notification subscription. The receiving platform must be configured to accept inbound email alerts. Below is a summary of commonly used platforms and their level of support:

Who can configure External Notifications?
The ability to configure and manage external email recipients is limited to users with Organization Admin or Organization Owner roles. These roles can determine which events external recipients are notified about, and maintain the list of subscribed email addresses.
This permission is designed to protect your organization’s security and compliance posture—external notifications may include sensitive activity or PII. If you do not see the External Notifications tab under Account Settings, you may not have the required permissions. Learn more about roles and permissions in Rewind →
