General Questions
What’s the difference between My Notifications and External Notifications?
My Notifications send alerts to your own email address as a Rewind user (Organization Owner/Admin only). External Notifications send alerts to any email address, including those not associated with Rewind accounts.
Are notifications sent in real time?
Yes, both My Notifications and External Notifications are sent immediately when events occur.
Can I choose which events to receive?
Yes, both notification types allow you to select specific events or entire categories of notifications.
Can I choose which events to receive per integration?
Not at the moment. Events related to integrations will be sent for all integrations within the organization.
My Notifications
Who can access My Notifications?
Only Organization Owners and Organization Admins can configure and receive My Notifications. Learn more about roles and permissions in Rewind →
What does "Notify for all current and future events" mean?
This option automatically subscribes you to new notification events as they're added to the platform. When Rewind adds new functionality, we create corresponding notification events. By default, new events are disabled unless you opt in to automatically receive notifications for future events. This ensures you stay informed about new capabilities without having to manually enable each new event type.
Are My Notifications enabled by default?
No, all My Notifications are disabled by default. You must explicitly enable the events you want to be notified about.
Will I still receive the default transactional emails?
Yes, default transactional emails (like backup failure notifications and weekly summaries) are sent automatically for most integrations, regardless of your My Notifications settings.
External Notifications
Can I send notifications to a group email or distribution list?
Yes, you can send notifications to any valid email address, including shared inboxes or distribution lists (e.g., compliance@company.com). Just ensure those addresses are managed securely.
Do external recipients need a Rewind account?
No, external recipients do not need to sign in or have a Rewind account. These are one-way email notifications.
How many external emails can I add?
You can add up to 10 external recipients per subscription. There's no limit to the number of subscriptions you can create, and each subscription can include its own set of event types.
Will recipients receive multiple notifications if the same email is added to multiple subscriptions?
No, external recipients will receive only one notification per event type per account, even if their email address appears in multiple subscriptions.
Event Details
I subscribed to "Backup Failure" events, but I received a "Backup Completed" notification. Why?
The "Backup Completed" notification includes a Result section in the email body that indicates whether the event succeeded or failed. Review this section to determine the actual status.
Will notifications include the reason why an event failed?
No, notifications only indicate the status (success or failure) or the event that was triggered. For detailed information about failures, log in to the Rewind App and view the audit logs or event history.
Unsubscribe and Management
Will external recipients see an unsubscribe link?
Yes, external notification emails include an unsubscribe link valid for 60 days. Unsubscribing stops all external notifications for that recipient. To resume notifications, they must be manually re-added by an organization owner or admin.
Can I use the unsubscribe link for My Notifications?
No, the unsubscribe link is only for external recipients. To modify My Notifications preferences, log in to your Rewind account and update your settings.
Integration and Compatibility
Can I use this with monitoring tools like PagerDuty?
Yes, Rewind's notification system is compatible with services that accept email as input, including PagerDuty, Opsgenie, and many ITSM tools.
Can I change the notification frequency?
Not currently. All notifications are sent in real time when events occur.
Privacy and Compliance
What information do notifications include?
Notification emails may include:
- The name of the user who triggered the event
- The organization name
- The account name (e.g., from a linked platform in case of backup failure)
Future Development
Are there plans for other notification channels (SMS, Slack, Webhooks)?
Yes, webhooks are planned for future development. Currently, only email notifications are supported. Submit suggestions to our support team at help@rewind.com.
Will there be a history of sent notifications for auditing?
This feature is not currently available. However, you can view and download audit logs through the Rewind App for auditing needs.
What happens if a notification fails to send?
We have retry mechanisms in place. If a notification fails, the system will attempt to resend it to ensure delivery.
