This article covers how to register, use, and manage security keys for login authentication in Rewind.
Using a security key for login authentication adds a powerful, phishing-resistant layer of protection to your Rewind account. Security keys verify your identity using a physical device or supported application, helping prevent unauthorized access even if your password is compromised. By requiring possession of a trusted device, security keys offer a faster and more secure authentication experience compared to traditional login methods.
How to register a security key
- Log in to your Rewind dashboard via app.rewind.com.
- Navigate to Account Settings > Security.
- Click Register security key.
-
Enter your account password when prompted.
-
Assign a nickname to the security key so you can easily identify it later (for example, Work laptop key or YubiKey).
-
Click Register and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the setup.
-
During registration, you can use supported options such as a hardware key (e.g., YubiKey), a password manager like 1Password or Google, or a compatible laptop (touch ID sensor or fingerprint key).
Note: During setup, Rewind will default to using your password manager for registration. If you’d prefer to use a hardware security key or a fingerprint key, make sure to touch or activate the device when prompted to continue the setup. -
Once registration is complete, you’ll receive confirmation that the security key has been successfully added to your account.

Additional information
- Security keys are tied to a single device or application and can’t be shared between users.
- We recommend keeping your registered security key in a safe and accessible location to avoid being locked out of your account.
- You can enable both two-factor authentication (2FA) and a security key on the same Rewind account. When both are active, Rewind will prompt you to authenticate using the more secure method by default—your security key. If needed, you can switch to authentication using 2FA by selecting the option at the bottom of the login screen.
