Step 1: Install Rewind Monitor
Once you have purchased Protection Suite, navigate to the Rewind Backups app in your Shopify account. Once in your Rewind Vault, click on the top left menu button to open the Protection Suite installation panel. Under Monitor, click the install button. You will now see Rewind Monitor in your list of Shopify apps.
When you first open the Rewind Monitor app, you will enter the overview page, giving you a high-level look at the status of the Shopify platform, your online store test flows, and the third-party apps you’re monitoring.
Step 2: Configure your notifications
Set up email notifications
By default, your Shopify store contact email address will be enabled for notifications. You have the option of adding additional email addresses to notifications by going to Settings > Email Alerts > Add email.
You can add as many email addresses here as you like. We recommend including inboxes that are monitored frequently, such as your customer support team, IT, or anyone managing your Shopify store such as your web developer or agency. If you don’t wish for each email address to receive all types of notifications, you can configure notification preferences under Settings > Email Alerts > Edit Notification Preferences. Here you will also find the option to receive notifications once an outage or a test flow failure has been resolved.
[Optional] Set up Slack notifications for Rewind Monitor
To set up Slack notifications, navigate to the settings tab > Slack Alerts > Add to Slack.
Step 3: Monitor the Shopify status
In addition to being notified about downtime or service disruptions with the Shopify platform, you can also navigate to your Rewind Monitor overview page and click view all for a breakdown of Shopify’s services, or click view alert history for a more detailed description of recent downtime.
If you don’t wish to be notified about all Shopify status alerts, you can control your notifications under Settings > Shopify notification preferences > update notifications.
Step 4: Create your store test flows
Store test flows are simulated user journeys through your store. These are set up by you based on what’s important to your business, such as an add to cart or initiated checkout.
For detailed instructions on how to create test flows, visit How to: Set up an automated test flow
Step 5: Set up Metric Monitors
Metric Monitors watch your store’s analytics on Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and alerts you of anomalies in your metrics that could be the sign of a problem.
To begin your setup, click the Metric Monitors tab and click Get started with Metric Monitors. Next, click Connect Google Analytics and complete the steps of selecting the GA4 account and property.
Next, select the store metric you would like to monitor from the list. The complete setup, click Create Monitor.
Step 6: Set up third-party app monitoring
Rewind Monitor checks for service disruptions of key third-party apps. Click here to read the full list of apps that we currently monitor or view the full list under the Third Party Apps tab.
From here, you can select which apps you’d like to monitor, and control which services specifically you’d like to monitor for each app by clicking manage service areas.
