This article explains how to set up Rewind Monitor after purchasing Protection Suite. You'll learn how to install the app, configure email and Slack notifications, monitor the Shopify platform status, create store test flows, set up Metric Monitors, and enable third-party app monitoring.
Before you begin
Before starting, confirm the following:
- You have purchased Protection Suite for your Shopify store.
Steps to set up Rewind Monitor
- Navigate to the Rewind Backups app in your Shopify account.
- In your Rewind Vault, click the menu button in the top left to open the Protection Suite installation panel.
- Under Monitor, click Install. Rewind Monitor will now appear in your list of Shopify apps.
- Open the Rewind Monitor app. You'll land on the overview page, which shows the status of the Shopify platform, your store test flows, and the third-party apps you're monitoring.
Steps to configure notifications
- To set up email notifications, navigate to Settings > Email Alerts > Add email. Your Shopify store contact email address is enabled by default.
- You can add as many email addresses as needed. We recommend including frequently monitored inboxes such as your customer support team, IT, or anyone managing your store.
- To control which notification types each address receives, go to Settings > Email Alerts > Edit notification preferences. You can also enable notifications for when an outage or test flow failure has been resolved.
- To set up Slack notifications, navigate to Settings > Slack Alerts > Add to Slack.
Steps to monitor the Shopify platform status
- On the overview page, click View all under the Shopify status section to see a breakdown of Shopify's services.
- Click View alert history for a detailed log of recent downtime.
- To control which Shopify status alerts you receive, go to Settings > Shopify notification preferences > Update notifications.
Steps to create store test flows
- Decide which user journeys are most important to your business — for example, add to cart or initiated checkout. These will form the basis of your test flows.
- Follow the instructions in How to set up an automated test flow to record and upload your test flows.
Steps to set up Metric Monitors
- Click the Metric Monitors tab and click Get started with Metric Monitors.
- Click Connect Google Analytics and complete the steps to select your GA4 account and property.
- Select the store metric you want to monitor from the list.
- Click Create Monitor to complete the setup.
Note: Metric Monitors use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) data to detect anomalies in your store metrics that could indicate a problem.
Steps to set up third-party app monitoring
- Navigate to the Third Party Apps tab to view the full list of apps Rewind Monitor can track. You can also see the full list in Which apps are supported by third-party app monitoring?
- Select the apps you want to monitor.
- To control which services are monitored for each app, click Manage service areas.
