To get the most out of Rewind Monitor, we recommend creating test flows. Test flows simulate user clicks on your store to ensure that key user journeys are functioning as expected. For example, by setting up an “add to cart” user flow, you would be notified when your add to cart functionality breaks.
For more information on test flows, read How to: Set up Rewind Monitor
Step 1: Install the Rewind Monitor Chrome Extension
In order to create an automated test flow, you will first need to have the Google Chrome web browser installed. Next, open Google Chrome and install the free Rewind Monitor Chrome extension on your browser
The first time you open the extension, you will be prompted to enable the setting “allow in incognito". You can also enable this anytime from within the browser extension’s settings.
Step 2: Record your test flow
On Chrome, open your store and navigate to the page where you’d like to begin your flow. For example, if you want to record your add to cart functionality, you might begin your test flow on a product or collection page. Then, click the Rewind Monitor Chrome extension in your browser > choose to record on desktop or mobile > enter a name for your test flow > click start recording. The same page will open in an incognito window.
Step 3: Complete your test flow
You will now see the recording test flow notice at the bottom of your incognito window to indicate that your recording is in progress. Now that you are recording, complete your test flow. In our add to cart example, you might record yourself clicking the “add to cart” button on a product page.
Once you finish, return to the Chrome extension and click stop recording.
Step 4: Import your test flow recording to Monitor
After completing your test flow recording, click the upload button next to your recording.
You will be redirected to Rewind Monitor where you will be given the option to rename your test flow and select the market you’d like your test to run in. By default, test flows are run on a US-based server, but you have the option to instead run your test in Canada, Australia, or the UK.
If your test flow recording ended on a product page or a collections page, you will be given the option to use Fuzzy Match in order to end your test flow on any product or collections page, rather than ending on those specific pages. Learn more about Fuzzy Match.
When you’re happy with your test flow and its settings, click upload test flow to complete the import.
Once you’ve uploaded your test flow, it will take a few minutes to update and begin showing test results on the overview and testing flows pages.
Now that your test flow is set up, you will start receiving notifications via email or Slack (if set up) whenever your test flow fails.
