The Advanced Restore feature lets you roll back your Shopify store to a previous point in time. You can restore all backed-up items, a specific item type, or a combination of item types.
This is useful when widespread changes affect your store — such as a CSV import overwriting product data, bulk deletions, or a configuration update affecting many records at once.
What data can Rewind restore? Rewind backs up many different types of Shopify data, including products, customers, collections, pages, themes, and more. For a complete breakdown of what data is included in Shopify backups and restores, see our Shopify backup and restore coverage guide →
Before performing an advanced restore
-
Run a manual backup first
Before performing a restore, run a manual backup to ensure the most recent changes in your store are captured. See How to complete a manual backup for detailed steps. -
Restores revert data to earlier versions
Advanced restores revert the selected Shopify data to the versions stored in your backups. Any changes made after the selected restore point — including intentional edits — will be reversed. Review your data beforehand so you know what updates may need to be re-applied. -
Restores are non-destructive
Restoring data will not delete items created after the selected restore point. For example, restoring to a time before a CSV import will revert existing items, but it will not remove new items created by that import.
Steps to complete a bulk restore in Shopify
- Log in to your Rewind account.
- Click Integrations > Shopify from the left-hand menu and then select your Shopify store.
- Select the Advanced Restore tab.
- In the Items to restore section, choose what item types you want to restore:
- All item types — Restores all backed-up data to the selected date and time.
- A single item type — Restores all items within that type (for example, all products or all customers).
- Multiple item types — Select multiple checkboxes to restore all items within those selected item types.
- Select the date and time you want to restore your data to. This should typically be a time before the unwanted changes occurred.
- Click Restore Items to start the restore job.
-
The restore will begin automatically, and you will receive an email notification once the restore has completed.
Tip: If you're unsure which date to choose, select a time from when your store data last appeared correctly in Shopify.
Additional information
- A bulk restore creates a restore job that processes all selected items. The time required will depend on the amount of data being restored and on factors such as Shopify API rate limits.
- If you only need to restore a single item, such as one product, page, or customer, see Shopify: Restore a single item for step-by-step instructions.
- Backup and restore activity can be reviewed in the Rewind audit log. See our Audit Log FAQ to learn how to view these events.
