This article explains the different ways you can verify that your Shopify backups are running as expected in Rewind. You can confirm backup health by checking the latest backup timestamp, reviewing backup activity in the Audit Log, configuring backup notifications, reviewing backed-up items in the Vault, and performing a test restore.
Covered in this article:
- Check the latest backup date and time
- Review backup activity in the Audit Log
- Use backup notifications and emails
- Review backed-up items in the Vault
- Validate backup health with a test restore
Check the latest backup date and time
One of the quickest ways to confirm backup activity is to review the latest backup timestamp shown in Rewind. On the main dashboard, each backup instance displays its most recent backup date and time. When you open a specific Shopify backup instance, the latest backup timestamp is also shown at the top of the Vault.
This is a useful first check to confirm that Rewind has recently completed a backup for your Shopify store. You can also cross-check this information using the Audit Log or backup-related email notifications.
Review backup activity in the Audit Log
The Rewind Audit Log provides a record of backup activity for your organization, including backup start and backup completion events. This is one of the best ways to confirm whether a backup ran successfully and to investigate failures if a backup does not complete as expected.
The Audit Log also shows the status of recorded events, including Success or Failure. For failed actions, you can hover over the information icon to view the failure reason.
Use backup notifications and emails
Email notifications can help you monitor backup health without signing in to Rewind each time. Rewind supports notifications for backup-related events, including backup successes and failures, and Organization Admins and Owners can configure which alerts they receive through My Notifications.
Rewind may also send default transactional emails, such as backup failure notifications or weekly backup summaries, even if they are not configured in notification preferences. These messages can help confirm ongoing backup activity and draw attention to issues that may require review.

Review backed-up items in the Vault
Another way to confirm backup health is to review the backed-up items available in the Vault. In the All Items tab, you can search for and filter specific Shopify items to confirm that Rewind is capturing the data you expect to see.
This is especially useful if you want to verify that a specific product, customer, order, page, or other supported item type appears in your backups.

Validate backup health with a test restore
The most complete way to confirm that backups are working as expected is to perform a test restore. This allows you to validate not only that Rewind has captured your Shopify data, but also that a previous version can be restored successfully.
A test restore typically involves making a small temporary change to a supported item, backing up that change, restoring the earlier version, and then confirming the result in both Rewind and Shopify.
