What changes for you
Once you've updated, Rewind works the same way it does today:
- Your existing connection, retention settings, and backup configurations stay in place.
- Your backups continue on the same schedule.
- All previous backup history and data are kept.
- What Rewind protects and how restores work don't change.
- Your plan and pricing don't change.
The only difference is the permissions screen. Forge apps list exactly what they can access, so you'll see a more detailed list than before. See the full list in the update guide for your app: Confluence · Jira.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to do anything?
Yes, for this update. An Atlassian organization admin needs to approve it once. Earlier updates were automatic. This one isn't.
Will Atlassian or Rewind notify me?
Atlassian won't send a notification. Instead, in Connected apps in Atlassian Admin, the Rewind app (Rewind Backups for Confluence or Rewind Backups for Jira) shows as Legacy, with an Update option. Rewind will also email account admins.
How do I check if I've already updated?
In Atlassian Admin, go to Connected apps, find Rewind Backups for Confluence or Rewind Backups for Jira, and open View app details. Compare the version to the one listed in that app's update above. If the app is labeled Legacy or there's an Update button, you haven't updated yet.
What happens if I don't update?
Your backups continue unaffected until January 31, 2027. After that date, backups for apps that haven't been updated may be affected. Update by the date listed in your app's entry above to make sure your backups continue without interruption.
Why is Rewind asking for new permissions?
Forge uses more detailed permissions than the older platform. The broad Connect permissions are replaced by specific permissions, one for each type of data Rewind backs up and restores. See the update guide for your app for the full list: Confluence · Jira.
Will I lose any backups if I update?
No. Your settings, previous backups, and backup history are all kept.
Do I need to set Rewind up again?
No. Approve the update and you're done.
